Nutrition & Athlete Psychology

Today we’d like to announce our new brand, the Endurance Nutrition System. The ENS was developed by EventHorizon calling on our USA Triathlon, Ironman U, and ISSN body of knowledge and with the input of coaches and sports nutrition experts with decades of endurance sport experience. The ENS allows us to deliver a consistent solution to athletes for nutrition, fueling, and body composition for athletes to meet their racing goals.

Discussions on nutrition approaches can incite passionate conversations rivaling debates on politics and religion. Athletes are left to sift through volumes of information in the public sphere, some of it good, but a substantial amount of it couched in speculative ideas. As a platform we generally stay away from proposed “silver bullet” supplements and fad diets.

For endurance athletes there may be facts and circumstances that differ from the conventional dieter and this is often overlooked by athletes and even conventional nutrition specialists.  Endurance sport training, body composition, nutrition and fueling have a symbiotic relationship and therefore there must be an integrated approach grounded in the best science available. Think of your nutrition, and body composition as your overall STRATEGIC approach. This is combined with the fueling for your training and racing which is your TACTICAL approach. It is really as simple as that.

Your body is a system.  In order to power that system to train and race endurance events, athletes must employ efficiently both their strategic and tactical approaches dynamically throughout their training and racing cycles. The ENS provides EventHorizon coached athletes the GPS to their performance goals.

What’s going on in the head of the athlete is the often overlooked discipline by endurance enthusiasts, and unfortunately most coaches.  EventHorizon coaches have always sought to help sharpen the athlete’s mindset, but we want to do more to get that extra performance edge. We want to offer services that are beyond “mental skills” and provide what few coaching platforms offer and that is what can be called true and authentic athlete psychology solutions by those with the highest possible qualifications to provide such solutions.

To help us accomplish these goals EventHorizon is pleased to partner with sports psychology expert Dr Mackenzie Brown, PsyD of Amplify Wellness +Performance.

An avid endurance enthusiast and Ironman triathlete, Dr. Brown is also a former division 1 rower. Through her coaching, she incorporated various performance enhancement techniques along with imagery, relaxation, and focus skills. Mackenzie has worked in college counseling centers at Keane State University, The University of Rhode Island, City Colleges of Chicago, John Marshall Law School and has worked with many athletic departments, coaches, and teams for sports performance consulting. Mackenzie has designed a suite of solutions for our coached endurance athletes and our coaching team is looking forward to learning from and working with her to help extract athlete performance.

Our goal is to continue to help manufacture endurance athletes from recreational to professional and everything in between, while utilizing the best science available as a foundation. People are increasing using endurance sports as their primary means of getting and maintaining fitness.  The steps we’ve taken with our Endurance Nutrition System and Athlete Psychology solutions will allow EventHorizon coaches to meet our objective, which is ultimately to help athletes meet or exceed the demands of endurance sport events.
